Limestone

Limestone Products, part of the Belgian Company, Carmeuse, awarded a contract to Webster Griffin, the UK based company which specialises in bagging machinery and systems, to provide a packing plant for their new factory in Ghana.

The contract, for a Webster Griffin 2-spout impeller packer for bagging hydrated lime, is worth around £65,000 and was handled by Hollimex, Webster Griffin's agent in Ghana.  The system includes an automatic sack discharge facility, together with a spillage recovery system which has a wire mesh conveyor belt so that dust will fall through so that it can be easily collected.  The installation has also been designed to minimise dust levels and to meet HSA standards.  For example, an inflatable spout prevents dust escaping from the bag during filling.

To ensure a consistent packing rate and accurate bag weight, a surge controller is incorporate to maintain a constant head of product above the packing machine.  One of the main reasons Limestone Products selected Webster Griffin was because of the unique design of their impeller packer which incorporates a pre-compaction system within the machine.  The product can therefore be packed directly off the product line into bags without the need for a further compaction process.
